Meet Dr. Erin Lessner
Education and Training
Dr. Erin Lessner joins West End Plastic Surgery in Washington, D.C., as a fellowship-trained oculoplastic surgeon. She grew up in Gainesville, Florida, and attended Dartmouth College, then returned to her hometown for medical school at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
She was chosen by the University of South Carolina School of Medicine for her ophthalmology residency and honored with the distinction of serving as Administrative Chief Resident during her final year. Her training culminated at the prestigious ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at UCLA Medical Center where she had exposure to the leading minds in her field.
Commitment to Teaching
Dr. Lessner has taught face lifting, fat transfer, and orbital decompression courses at the American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meetings. She has been a course instructor for UCLA aesthetic and orbital surgery courses, invited to speak internationally, and has been actively involved in presenting oculoplastics research across the country.
Passion for Advocacy
In addition to her commitment to oculoplastic surgery, Dr. Lessner has a passion for health policy. During residency, she was elected Chair of the Resident and Fellow Section of the South Carolina Medical Association and recognized by the American Medical Women's Association with the Susan L. Ivey, MD Courage to Lead Award.
She has experience working on Capitol Hill and has represented both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery as an Advocacy Ambassador. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and serves on the American Academy of Ophthalmology Young Ophthalmologist subcommittee on advocacy.
Surgical and Nonsurgical Procedures
Dr. Lessner's interest is in rejuvenation of the eyelids, brow, and face. A keen sense of surgical precision and thorough knowledge of contemporary and traditional techniques is the hallmark of her style and expertise. Utilization of high definition and 3-D imaging provides insight into patients' visions of themselves and their desires.
She performs upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) on patients with heavy upper eyelids and lower eyelid "bags."" Her practice also focuses on brow lifts and correcting eyelid malpositions, including droopy eyelids (ptosis surgery), eyelids turning out (ectropion surgery), and eyelids turning in (entropion surgery). She has extensive experience diagnosing and treating eyelid cancers (Mohs reconstruction).
For those not ready for surgery, we provide toxins, fillers, laser and energy treatments, and chemical peels — all individualized to each patient to create a youthful and refreshed appearance.
