Renuvion Body Sculpting in Washington, DC

What is Renuvion Skin Tightening?

Renuvion is a revolutionary minimally invasive procedure that uses sub-dermal cold plasma energy to instantly tighten and rejuvenate anywhere on the face and body. A unique alternative to traditional facelifts, tummy tucks, and body sculpting, Renuvion procedures will shrink and sculpt loose and lax skin without large incisions, downtime, or the complications of cosmetic surgery.

Renuvion for the body uses cold plasma energy under the skin to tighten, sculpt and rejuvenate the body giving you natural-looking results with minimal downtime and no complications of a traditional tummy tuck or body sculpting. Renuvion is unique because the cold plasma energy applied under the skin creates instant skin contraction resulting in improved laxity, tightening, and shrinkage.

Is Renuvion Safe?

Specifically, in the last twelve months, Apyx Medical (the manufacturer of Renuvion) has received four FDA 510(k) clearances for the use of their Renuvion handpieces in specific clinical indications, all of which are supported by substantial evidence demonstrating the safety of their products. Renuvion has FDA 510(k) clearance for treating soft tissues after liposuction treatment. The Renuvion APR handpiece is the only device to have a 510(k) clearance for use following liposuction. This FDA clearance further demonstrates the safety and effectiveness of Renuvion technology.

Renuvion with Liposuction

Renuvion is the only device FDA-cleared to be used after liposuction. Liposuction effectively removes fat volume, leaving behind empty space which may increase the appearance of excess or loose skin. Renuvion goes beneath the surface and applies precise energy directly to the source of the loose skin. This energy contracts the collagen fibers and pulls the skin down, closer to the muscle, for a more contoured appearance.  By adding Renuvion to these procedures, physicians have another tool to help them obtain optimal liposuction results.

Using Renuvion after liposuction allows patients, with minimal to moderate skin redundancy, to attain high-definition results that were once only available with skin excision. Renuvion and liposuction are the gold standards for amazing body contouring results.

Candidates for Renuvion Skin Tightening

Renuvion body procedure has been performed on men and women of all age groups ranging from 20-somethings to 70-year-olds. It's ideal for those with mild to moderate loose skin from age, weight loss, or pregnancy. A traditional abdominoplasty or body contouring procedure is recommended for those with more advanced needs. It is also ideal for those who have had non-surgical body contouring or fat reduction treatments but did not see improvement. Patients choose Renuvion because they want instant results without the downtime and large scars from traditional surgery.

What Is Plasma Energy?

Cold plasma is created when helium gas is energized by radiofrequency energy and delivered through the device. Because Helium gas is very stable, it can be ionized at very low energy ensuring flexible, precise and safe delivery. Cold plasma is cooler than laser energy making Renuvion body contouring a safer procedure with less risk and damage to the tissue and affording patients a quick recovery. The level of improvement and rejuvenation from cold plasma energy is unrivaled in current technologies. No laser, ultrasound or radiofrequency treatment is capable of safely tightening and firming skin to this level.

How is Renuvion Performed?

Performed in-office and using local, general anesthesia, or PRO-NOX, Dr. Ruff starts the Renuvion body procedure with tiny, hidden incisions strategically placed based on the area of the body to be treated. Then he uses the device sub-dermally (under the skin) to deliver cold plasma. This instantly tightens, shrinks, and rejuvenates the skin from the inside out. Results are immediate and continue to improve as your body continues to heal.

In this video, Dr. Ruff is showing the anatomy that is targeted during a Renuvion J-Plasma procedure:

Recovery After Renuvion

Renuvion body procedure takes about an hour per area and patients can expect initial tightness in the treated area. Pain is minimal and can be lessened with an over-the-counter pain reliever. Patients wear a compression garment for the first 72 hours. Mild swelling and bruising can take one to two weeks to resolve. Most patients are able to resume normal activities as early as one-day post-procedure.

How long does it take to see results from Renuvion?

When the body senses the combination of cold plasma and RF energy delivered by Renuvion, it responds with the classic wound-healing response, even though there isn’t any actual wound. This immediately creates contraction of the soft tissue across the treatment area. From there, the body continues to build new collagen supplies for the next 6 to 9 months; this is the wound-healing response that improves skin tone and tightness from within.

Is Renuvion painful?

For our Renuvion treatments at West End Plastic Surgery, the patient can be under general anesthesia, sedation, or even local anesthesia. The method depends upon the area being treated and the patient’s preferences. Regardless of the anesthesia approach, Renuvion is a painless treatment. Any residual soreness from the tiny injections is easily manageable with over-the-counter pain medication.

Can I combine my Renuvion treatments with surgical procedures?

Most of our West End patients look at Renuvion treatments as an alternative to invasive surgical procedures. But liposuction can be combined with Renuvion to provide an alternative to more invasive surgical procedures. This combination tightens skin and removes localized pockets of fat. At West End Plastic Surgery, we’ve had patients who used Renuvion with liposuction as an alternative to surgical arm lifts, gynecomastia surgery, and for moderate body contouring.

How many Renuvion treatments are needed?

These are single, stand-alone treatments.

What’s the difference between Renuvion and other types of skin tightening treatments?

You’ve likely heard of other means of creating the wound-healing mechanisms in the skin that lead to increased collagen production and overall skin tightening. These treatments use either laser energy or radiofrequency energy to attain their results. The problem with these treatments is that if the energy levels used are too high there can be damage to the tissue causing burns or scarring.

Renuvion is different because helium plasma only requires a small amount of radiofrequency energy to activate the helium gas. This leads to a release of ionic energy. The combination allows Renuvion to deliver better skin tightening at lower temperatures with virtually no risk for tissue damage. That’s in contrast to laser treatments that rely solely on heat energy to trigger the skin’s wound-healing response in the dermis.

Are there any aftercare instructions after a Renuvion treatment?

The energy applied through the combination of helium plasma and radiofrequency energy is applied directly into the dermis layer of the skin beneath the epidermis. The skin tightening and collagen increase all occur from the dermis working upward to the outer skin as the results build. Because of that, there aren’t any specific things you need to do for your skin following a Renuvion treatment.
