What is Silhouette InstaLift™?
Silhouette InstaLiftTM is an outpatient procedure that is so gentle and minimally-invasive that treatment is conducted in our office using nothing more than a local anesthetic. The non-surgical lift has been developed to address the moderate effects of aging, including sagging jowls, nasolabial folds, and more. Through this procedure, patients can gain immediate lifting results as well as the benefit of ongoing tissue and volume restoration thanks to the healing response provoked by bi-directional cones in Polyglycolide/L-lactide (PLGA) thread.
If you are looking for a non-surgical option to a facelift, Silhouette InstaLift™ could be the right treatment for you when done by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
Candidates for Silhouette InstaLift™
Men and women interested in managing their aging process with minimal intervention are usually excellent candidates for the Silhouette InstaLift. Because there is no general anesthesia and no incisions, the same general guidelines for cosmetic surgery do not apply to every situation of InstaLift. Primarily, we discuss the can be realistically expected from treatment during the consultation for this procedure.
Silhouette InstaLift™ offers an excellent option for those who are looking for a natural, younger look but who don’t want to undergo a traditional surgical facelift or deal with the ongoing maintenance required with injectables three to four times a year.
What Can a Silhouette InstaLift Treatment Improve?
Patients appreciate the immediate and progressive results that can be achieved with the Silhouette InstaLift.
The immediate lifting effect of treatment is subtle but noticeable. This initial effect is achieved by the insertion of a single suture on each side of the face. Each suture holds the superficial tissue in a higher position through bi-directional cones located along their length.
The PLGA sutures dissolve over time. Until they do, their presence beneath the skin provokes an increase in the production of Type I and Type III collagen, which can slow the progression of aging.

Silhouette InstaLift™ Vs. Facelift
In many cases, the Silhouette InstaLift can be a suitable alternative for facelift surgery to correct mild to moderate facial aging. The differences that need to be noted revolve around the extensiveness of tissue manipulation and results.
A surgical facelift is a more invasive procedure. IV sedation or general anesthesia is necessary to manage comfort. Incisions are made in strategic locations to provide access to substructures including fatty tissue and muscle. A surgical facelift will manipulate these structures and affix them in a higher position. Excess skin is also removed to make the face appear smoother and tighter. A few weeks of intense swelling and bruising are expected after a surgical facelift.
The Silhouette InstaLift has a much shorter recovery period and much less noticeable side effects. However, the ultimate result of an InstaLift will subside more quickly than a surgical lift and will not be as dramatic.
Silhouette InstaLift™ Procedure
Silhouette InstaLift treatment is performed after superficial nerve-endings are numbed with injections of a local anesthetic. A suture is then inserted from a low point on the side of the cheek. The suture exits a higher-point on the cheek.
No cutting, no tissue removal! There are no incisions needed to achieve the subtle lift of mid-face tissue, which means recovery time is minimal.
What Are The Sutures Made Of And Are They Safe?
Silhouette InstaLift is made from Polyglycolide/L-lactide (PLGA), which has a long history of use as a well-tolerated, resorbable suture. The suture design was developed by scientists in the USA using reconstructive and aesthetic surgical expertise.
When Will I See Results After a Silhouette InstaLift™?
Patients appreciate the immediate results they can observe at the conclusion of their InstaLift procedure. In addition to offering an immediate improvement in the appearance of the skin, an InstaLift also provides ongoing improvement through the stimulation of collagen production.
How Long Does Silhouette InstaLift™ Last?
It is reasonable to expect the results of a Silhouette InstaLift to last from 12 to 18 months. As sutures dissolve, the skin will continue to age due to collagen depletion. Because the sutures used in an InstaLift dissolve, treatment can be repeated if so desired.
Silhouette InstaLift™ Recovery
Clinical performance has indicated that the downtime after InstaLift treatment is minimal. Most patients are able to return to light activity within a day or two, experiencing only mild soreness during the first 48 hours after their procedure.
Silhouette InstaLift™ Side Effects
The most common side effects of InstaLift treatment include mild swelling, redness, and bruising. However, at West End Plastic Surgery, we discuss some ways our patients can prepare in order to reduce these side effects. This includes refraining from aspirin, a blood-thinning medication. Please keep in mind that it’s important that all patients will need to consult with their primary care physician before stopping their medication. In addition, taking arnica pre and post-procedure will alleviate bruising.
After treatment, slight puckering may be noticed in the area of suture placement. If this side effect does occur, it is usually short-lived and gradually diminishes over several days.
