Who is a good candidate for liposuction?

Although VASERlipo is a powerful tool for permanently reducing fat, it's important to note that it's not a weight loss surgery. Good candidates are people who are in generally good shape but are still bothered by small, localized areas of unwanted fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction in any form, including VASERlipo, is not appropriate for overall large-volume weight reduction. As with any form of cosmetic surgery, it's important to have realistic expectations regarding what your likely outcome will be. Dr. Ruff can give you a better understanding of what to expect.

What body parts are most commonly treated by liposuction?

Liposuction is an incredibly versatile procedure that can be used to treat a variety of areas of the body. The most common treatment areas include:

  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Hips
  • Neck and Chin

These are only the beginning. Share your specific concerns with Dr. Ruff during your consultation, and he'll help you determine whether VASERlipo can suit your needs.

What is VASER Hi Def® liposuction?

VASER Hi Def is an advanced technique that enables Dr. Ruff to actually sculpt your layers of fat as he precisely contours your body. This method is especially effective for creating a 6-pack ab look and emphasizing the pectoral muscles, obliques, and other muscle groups for an athletic look. Some practices refer to this approach as "liposculpture," but only VASER Hi Def offers a method designed specifically for this purpose. We are one of the few centers certified by VASER to perform and train other physicians in this highly specialized technique.

Can the fat removed during liposuction be used elsewhere?

Yes! Fat transfer is becoming an ever more popular way to enhance the face, hands, and even the breasts. It is also used for Brazilian butt lift surgery. Liposuction is the first step in the fat transfer process, and VASERLipo is a great method for this because it does not damage the fat cells during extraction. If you want to enhance other areas of your body while removing fat from trouble spots, be sure to talk to us about this innovative option.

Do I need liposuction or a tummy tuck?

The answer to this question depends on how much extra skin you have. Although tummy tuck surgery does reduce excess fat in the abdomen, it also trims away loose, sagging skin and even tightens weakened abdominal muscles. On the other hand, abdominal liposuction is better suited to patients who have good skin elasticity and simply wish to reduce fat. If you're still not sure which option is right for you, Dr. Ruff can help you choose during your consultation.

Is there anything I can do to make my recuperation faster or easier?

The most important thing you can do to ensure a speedy, uneventful recuperation is follow Dr. Ruff's instructions. Depending where on your body you have VASERlipo, you may need to avoid certain activities for some time. In general, however, VASERlipo requires a shorter recuperation than other forms of liposuction. Most patients, for example, can return to work after only 3 days.

Are there alternatives to VASERlipo surgery?

Options for reducing fat include weight loss and exercise, especially toning exercises. In addition, other procedures such as a buttock lift, thigh lift, or tummy tuck can also be performed to enhance overall appearance.

How does VASERlipo reduce the appearance of cellulite?

Cellulite is caused by thick bands of connective tissue that pull on skin from below, creating the appearance of dimples. Excess fat can make cellulite appear more pronounced. Therefore, removing fat via VASER can reduce the severity of cellulite and ease its appearance. In addition to removing fat, VASERlipo can also directly treat the bands associated with these dimples, disrupting the cellulite's structures. There is also some evidence that the ultrasound energy generated by VASER increases collagen production and thickens and tightens the skin, further reducing the bulges and dimples associated with this stubborn condition.

How much does liposuction cost?

Because liposuction is so versatile, its cost varies greatly at our Washington, D.C. practice. If you want a quick liposuction procedure to reduce fat below your chin, for instance, that will cost less than someone who wants contouring of the waist and flanks. We keep our prices competitive within the region, and we are pleased to work with you during your consultation to outline costs and find a way to fit your goals into your budget.
